Southern Berkshire Babe Ruth Squad Advances at Regional

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Mason Bailey and Kyle McMahon Sunday each went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI to lead the Southern Berkshire Knights 16-year-old All-Stars to a 4-1 win over the Rhode Island State Champions at the Babe Ruth New England Regional at Bullens Field.
 
With the win, Southern Berkshire secured the third seed out of its four-team pool in the eight-team tournament, giving the Knights a berth in bracket play, which begins on Monday.
 
Southern Berkshire came back from a 1-0 deficit when Gabe Ranzoni doubled to center field to drive in John Brighenti in the top of the third inning.
 
In the top of the fifth, McMahon led off the inning with a double, and with the bases loaded and nobody out, Bailey singled to right to drive McMahon home and give the Knights a 2-1 lead.
 
Southern Berkshire pounded out 11 hits in the win.
 
Andrew Miller went 2-for-3 with a double and scored a run. Brighenti went 2-for-4.
 
Three different Southern Berkshire pitchers combined on the win on the mound.
 
Cam Coon struck out five and allowed one run in 3 and one-third innings before Erik Miller closed the fourth.
 
Dom Newton was credited with the win after throwing three innings of scoreless relief to finish the game.
 
Southern Berkshire is slated to play at 1 p.m. on Monday afternoon against the second-place team from pool A.
