EGREMONT, Mass. — Twenty-one years ago, The Nature Conservancy, Egremont Land Trust, and the state Division of Fisheries and Wildlife and the Department of Conservation and Recreation protected 213 acres of forested lands in Mt. Washington and Egremont, Mass., in the Berkshires. The parcel is part of a 36,000-acre intact forest block which includes the headwaters of Karner Brook, an area of critical environmental concern and a public water supply for Egremont residents. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The Championship matchups are set for the Northern Berkshire Sports Academy's fall basketball season. The title games are set for Sunday morning at Drury High School. In the A Division, the NBSA will play Giardina and Bresett PC at 9 a.m. Then, the Saboteurs will take on Adelson and Company in the B Division final. Drury High graduate Kayla McGrath has a team-high eight goals for the Springfield College women's soccer team this fall. Last week, she scored both Pride goals in a 2-0 win over Wellesley. McGrath's two game-winning goals this season is currently seventh in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference. She has played 29 games and has 10 starts over the last two seasons for Springfield, which was 8-4-5 overall (6-2-3 in the NEWMAC) in the regular season and opens the conference tournament on Tuesday against Smith. Pittsfield High School graduate Kellie Harrington last week was named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week for her performance as a first-year harrier at Stonehill College. Harrington placed 21st and helped the Skyhawks finish second as a team at her first collegiate race, a 5-kilometer event at the 41-team UMass Dartmouth Invitational. Lee CTA Offers Free Tennis Clinics

LEE, Mass. – The Lee Community Tennis Association and Western Massachusetts chapter of the U.S. Tennis Association will offer free clinics on Tuesdays and Thursdays this fall. The program is open to children in grades 3 through 8. The clinics will be held from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. starting Tuesday, Sept. 12, and continuing twice weekly for five weeks. CHESHIRE, Mass. — The McCann Tech cross country team on Sept. 16 will host a 5-kilometer trail run and 1 mile walk to benefit victims of August's fire in Hawaii. The Walk/Run for Maui fund-raiser will take place at Whitney's Farm on Ingalls Road (follow the dirt road past the U-Pick blueberries). GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. -- The 24th annual Monument Cup 3-on-3 soccer tournament returns on Sunday, Sept. 24, at Monument Mountain Regional High School. The event features boys and girls divisions in the under-10, under-12 and under-14 age groups. Teams of three to four players are guaranteed at least three matches.
