Rodriguez Leads Millers in Battle for First Place

LENOX, Mass. -- Brian Rodriguez went 3-for-3 with a home run and a double on Sunday to lead the GB Millers to a 3-2 win over the Berkshire Bandits in the Berkshire Adult Baseball League's 20-and-over division.   Rodriguez hit a one-out single in the bottom of the sixth and scored on Chip Paul's single to break a 2-2 tie as the Millers swept the regular season series from the Bandits, who came into Sunday's game a half-game behind GB for first place with two weekends left in the regular season.   Rodriguez also earned the win on the mound with two innings of relief, striking out four including striking out the side in order in the top of the seventh.   Dick Dumas

BCArc’s Golf Event Raises Funds for Individuals with Disabilities

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Berkshire County Arc raised $45,000 at its 29th annual Golf Classic held this summer at Berkshire Hills Country Club.   The funds raised from the event go directly to individuals with disabilities for activities such as art classes, medical equipment, wheelchair swings, concerts, assistive technology, and dream trips to places like Disney, Celtics games, and deep-sea fishing.   The money also goes to scholarships to area high school students planning to pursue human service careers.   The lead supporters of the event this year were Berkshire Bank, Health New England, Greylock Federal Credit Union,  Notch Insurance Group, Synagex Modern IT, and

Garceau Earns All-America Honors at UMass Boston

Wahconah Regional High School graduate and UMass Boston sophomore Aryianna Garceau earned all-America honors in the 100-meter hurdles at May's NCAA Division III Championships.   Garceau took sixth in the finals with a time of 14.05 seconds after qualifying for the finals with a time of 13.97, which broke a 35-year school record.   In earning all-America honors, Garceau became the 20th Beacon to achieve that honor and the first since 2018.   Earlier in May, Garceau was named to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Association's all-Region team. Nearly 100 Compete in Berkshire Pride 5K

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Jay Santangelo of Lenox was the top nonbinary runner at the Berkshire Pride 5K on Sunday.   Santangelo covered the 5-kilometer course in 27 minutes, 14.53 seconds to place 16th overall among 94 finishers.   Pittsfield's Cam LaFerriere was the overall winner in 22.45.72, a 7:19 mile pace.   LaFerriere finished 24 seconds ahead of Canaan, N.Y.'s, Thomas Salaatte in second place (23:09.52).   The top woman in the field was Williamstown's Maya Filson, who placed seventh overall with a time of 24:09.06.   Full results are available on the Berkshire Running Center's website.
