Constance Tompkins

Constance P. Tompkins, 82, of Beckett Road, Bridgewater, Conn., former resident of Pittsfield, died yesterday at Hartford Hospital. She moved to Bridgewater in 1995.
Born in Hudson Falls, N.Y., on Dec. 3, 1918, daughter of Anthony and Aurora Gaulin Jones, she attended school there. She earned a bachelor's degree in education from Marymount College, Tarrytown, N.Y., and later received a master's degree from North Adams State College in North Adams.
She taught second grade at Sacred Heart Church in Pittsfield, where she lived for 35 years. She retired in 1984.
Mrs. Tompkins was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Brookfield, Conn., and was active in its study groups, the Over 55 Group, Initio Divina and the American Association of Retired Persons.
She leaves her husband of 52 years, Francis J. Tompkins, whom she married Aug. 27, 1949; three sons, Christopher B. Tompkins of Palm Bay, Fla., Brian A. Tompkins of Troy, Ohio, and Kiernan F. Tompkins of Middletown, N.J.; a daughter, Mary Ann Toppan of South Kent, Conn.; two sisters, Anne Lorraine Jones and M. Marjorie Jones, both of Queensburg, N.Y., and 11 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Friday at 10 at St. Joseph's Church, Brookfield, Conn., with a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Kent. Friends may call at BROOKFIELD FUNERAL HOME, 786 Federal Road, Brookfield, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.
