Ethel Richardson, 78, of 99 Windsor Ave., died Sunday at home of lung cancer.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on May 30, 1923, daughter of Harry and Norma Winston Kane, she attended New York City schools. She moved to Pittsfield in 1951.
A member of the Women's Army Corps, Mrs. Richardson served with the Army Air Forces during World War II.
She was employed as a secretary by Sheaffer Eaton Paper Co., retiring in 1983 after 14 years. Prior to that, she worked at the former St. Luke's Hospital as a switchboard operator.
She leaves her husband, Donald E. Richardson, whom she married on March 30, 1947; three sons, John Richardson of Pittsfield, Mark Richardson of Morrison, Colo., and Owen Richardson of Pepperell; two daughters, Norma Richardson and Ellen Gorski, both of Pittsfield; three brothers, Stuart Kane of Hillsboro, Mo., David Kane of Marco Island, Fla., and Larry Kane of Brooklyn; two sisters, Joan McGovern of Brentwood, N.Y., and Marianne Connell of Lindenhurst, N.Y., and 10 grandchildren. Mrs. Richardson is also survived by her daughters-in-law, Susan Richardson of Pittsfield and Andrea Collins Richardson of Pepperell; a son-in-law, Chester Gorski of Pittsfield, and 10 grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Robert Kane.
There will be no calling hours. Interment will be private. A gathering to celebrate the life of Ethel Richardson will take place at 99 Windsor Ave. for immediate family and friends on Saturday, Sept. 15. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare of the Berkshires in care of WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME.
