Mary E. McGovern, 84, of 30 Westwood Road died Thursday afternoon at home after a long illness.
Born in Pittsfield on April 15, 1917, daughter of Joseph and Catherine Moynihan Sheerin, she was a 1935 graduate of St. Joseph's Central High School. She continued her education at the former Berkshire Business College.
A communicant of St. Joseph's Church, Mrs. McGovern was primarily a homemaker. She enjoyed socializing and reading.
She and her husband, Terrence McGovern, celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary July 16.
Besides her husband, she leaves a son, Peter T. McGovern of Pittsfield; a brother, Joseph Sheerin of Pittsfield, and a sister, Catherine LaMont of Pittsfield.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 4 to 6 at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME. Funeral services will be held Monday at 9:15 at the funeral home, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Joseph's Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the St. Joseph's Church Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.
