John Lizak

John Lizak, 77, of 16 Dalton Ave. died Wednesday morning at home.
Born in East Hartford, Conn., on July 21, 1924, son of George and Frances Skoczylas Lizak, he attended Springfield schools and played football while attending Putnam Trade Vocational School. He moved to Pittsfield in 1998.
He served in the Army during World War II.
Mr. Lizak was employed by the railroad when he was a young man. He later operated the Federal Café for 10 years and was a truck driver for Armour Meat, both in Springfield. He worked at Moore Drop Forge in Springfield as a forge and mold maker until his retirement in 1990. After retiring, he worked for Delude Brothers Landscaping until five years ago.
He was a member of the Medford Running Club in Springfield and the Springfield YMCA, where he was a boxer. He enjoyed weight lifting at Gold's Gym in Springfield, and had run in the New York City Marathon and in the Boston Marathon.
He leaves a son, Steven Lizak of Palmer; a daughter, Lisa Fitzgerald of Pittsfield, with whom he resided; two stepsons, Daniel Mullin of Pittsfield and Craig Lemelin of Indian Orchard; a stepdaughter, Debra Sullivan of West Springfield; a brother, Theodore Lizak of Agawam; four grandchildren, and his former wife, Judith Paroline of Indian Orchard.
After cremation, a Memorial Mass will be held Tuesday at 10:30 at Immaculate Conception Church in West Springfield, and the family will receive friends immediately following Mass at Donnie's Café. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to a trust fund at City Savings Bank in care of DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME. The family wishes to send a very special Thank You to Walter and Eileen Kopychak as well as all of the Hospice staff who have helped them through the toughest time in John's and the family's lives. Special thanks to Dr. Jay Ellis and his staff.
