Mary L. Gebauer, 89

DALTON, Mass. — Mary Louise Gebauer, 89, of 45 Main St. and a former longtime resident of 44 Ashland St., North Adams, died Sunday, April 29, 2012, at Providence Care of Lenox.
Born in North Adams on Feb. 13, 1923, daughter of Clarence and Blanche Smith McElroy, she attended North Adams schools and graduated from the former St. Joseph's High School.
Mrs. Gebauer was last employed as a sales clerk at the former North Adams General Store. In her younger years, she worked as a switchboard operator for New England Telephone Co. She also worked as a professional seamstress for a time.
She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in North Adams. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, and music, especially songs of the 1940s.
Her husband, Raymond Gebauer, whom she married on Oct. 17, 1947, died on Dec. 18, 1980.
She leaves two daughters, Wendy Grande and her husband, Joseph, and Beverly Ames Thompson and her husband, Gert, all of Dalton; a son, Mark Gebauer and his wife, Catherine, of Camp Hill, Pa.; a sister, Doris M. Cook of North Adams; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Grande, Peter Grande, Louise Gebauer, Samantha Gebauer and Alexander Gebauer; a sister-in-law, Priscilla Zuber and her husband, John, of Pittsfield; and nieces and nephews.
Her brother, Gordon McElroy, is deceased.
FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mrs. Gebauer will be Wednesday, May 2, at 10 at All Saints Episcopal Church in North Adams. Burial will follow in Bellevue cemetery in Adams.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, May 1, from 4 to 7 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St. North Adams. Memorial contributions may be made to All Saints Church in care of the funeral home.
Aunt Mary ALWAYS had a smile! I never forgot her all these years! She was very special.
