PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Mary Elizabeth Cantoni, 78, of 87 Valentine Road, formerly of Williamstown, died Monday, July 12, 2010, at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Searsburg, Vt., on Sept. 27, 1931, a daughter of Edward and Viola Davis Maxwell, she attended schools in Searsburg.
Mrs. Cantoni was employed at the former Cornish Wire Co. in Pownal, Vt., the former JT Bus Lines and, in the 1980s, by the former empress of Iran and her family while they were living in Williamstown.
She was a communicant of the former St. Anthony's Church in North Adams and an avid bingo player.
Her husband, Rosario T. Cantoni Jr., whom she married on Sept. 8, 1956, died on July 21, 2004.
She leaves five sons, Richard Cantoni, Rosario Cantoni III and Gary Dow, all of North Adams, John Dow of Pittsfield and Robert Dow of Adams; two brothers, Stanley Maxwell of North Adams and Robert Maxwell; nine grandchildren, Jason Bolte, who took care of her, April Cantoni, Kyle Cantoni, Ashleigh Dow, Christopher Dow, Barbara Dow, Mindy Dow, Geralynn Dow and Christine Dow; three stepgrandchildren, Nick Ouimet, Alicia Rondeau and Cassie Shoestock, and several great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her brothers Edward and Clarence Maxwell and her sisters Erma Crawford and Shirley Maxwell.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mrs. Cantoni will take place Friday, July 16, at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams.
Calling hours will be Friday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Flynn and Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Memorial Donations are suggested for Berkshire Medical Center through the funeral home.
