James T. Carpenter, 59

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — James T. Carpenter, 59, of 310 Cloverdale St. died Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, at Berkshire Medical Center following a brief illness.

Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 29, 1950, son of Anita Shartrand of Russell, he attended Wahconah Regional High School.

Mr. Carpenter worked for 18 years at the former General Electric in the tank shop of the power transformer manufacturing division. For the past four years, he was a truck driver for Covenant Transport.

He enjoyed fishing, camping, watching NASCAR and chatting with friends on the computer. He was a volunteer firefighter in Hinsdale and member of its muster team for many years.

He and his wife, Jane Vanderbeek, were married Sept. 14, 1996.

Besides his wife and mother, he leaves two daughters, Shannon Delasco and her husband, Tom, of Lenox and Tiffany Carpenter of Pittsfield; a stepson, Bryan Manning and his wife, Bethany, of Stephentown, N.Y.; four brothers, John Carpenter and his wife, Judy, of Hinsdale, Michael Carpenter and his wife, Corky, of Russell, Leo Shartrand and his wife, Corrine, of Arizona and David Carpenter and his wife, Tinamarie, of Pittsfield; a sister, Peggy Moore and her husband, Tom, of Chester; four grandchildren, Katie and Jenni Delasco, Brittany Salvi and Landon Manning, and many nieces and nephews.

FUNERAL NOTICE — A memorial service for Mr. Carpenter will be held Thursday, Jan. 28, at 1 p.m. at Wellington Funeral Home. Burial will be Friday, Jan. 29, in Pittsfield Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society or the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201. Thoughts and wishes may be sent to condolences@wellingtonfuneralhome.com.
