PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Nancy Anne Brown, 66, of 77 Onota St. died Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, at her home.
Born in North Adams on March 7, 1943, daughter of Richard and Cora Sifton Bullett, she attended schools in North Adams and was the valedictorian of the class of 1960 at Drury High School. At the age of 50, she graduated from Greenfield Community College at the top of her class with a degree in nursing. She also had resided in Rowe.
Mrs. Brown was employed as a licensed practical nurse at Hillcrest Commons.
She was a communicant of St. Joachim's Church in Readsboro, Vt. She was a member of the American Hosta Society, and was considered by many as expert on hostas and was a judge at several hosta shows throughout the Northeast. She enjoyed gardening and was a Master Gardener, giving lectures at botanical gardens.
She and her devoted husband, retired Lt. James D. Brown of the North Adams Fire Department, were married on Jan. 24, 1980, in Lebanon, N.Y.
Besides her husband, she leaves two daughters, Stephanie Sherry Giebner and her husband, Mark, of Ludlow and Jamie O'Dell and her husband, Stephen, of Lee; a son, Richard Sherry of Apopka, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Sandra Lloyd of North Adams; a sister, Dayle Judge of North Scituate, R.I.; 11 grandchildren, Chloe and Camryn O'Dell, Colin, Logan, Morgan, Madison and Quinn Giebner, Tanya Stone, Summer and Fallon Sherry and Samantha Lloyd
FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mrs. Brown will be Thursday, Sept. 24, at 9:15 a.m. from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 from St. Mark's Church, Pittsfield, celebrated by the Rev. Geoffrey Deeker. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery in North Adams.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, 877 South St. Suite 4 East, Pittsfield, MA 01201.
