DALTON, Mass. — Mary Kathryn Green, 94, of Sugar Hill, 45 Main St., died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009 at Williamstown Commons.
Born in South Haven, Mich., on May 11, 1914, daughter of Raymond and Rose Keeley Appleyard, she graduated from South Haven High School and completed her nursing degree in Kalamazoo, Mich. She raised her family in Buffalo, N.Y., and retired to Sun City West, Ariz., for nearly 20 years. She moved to Melbourne Place in Pittsfield in 2004 and later to Sugar Hill.
Mrs. Green worked as a registered nurse in Baltimore while her husband, Dr. Benjamin Gilbert Green, was in medical school.
She was a longtime member of the Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church in Buffalo and active in the Meals on Wheels program there. She enjoyed photography, especially wildlife and outdoor scenes, painting and photographic tinting. She also loved travel, especially her trip to the Holy Land and to the many Indian lands in the Southwest, and enjoyed the warmth and sun of Arizona. Her family and friends remember her doing daily crossword puzzles, bowling in various leagues, and playing all manner of card games.
Her husband died in 2000.
She leaves five sons, John P. Green of Williamstown, Gilbert B. Green of San Diego, Daniel R. Green of Chicago, James A. Green of Storrs, Conn., and Thomas R. Green of Scituate; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildrenn, who will miss gramma very much.
Her five brothers and sisters and a grandson predeceased her.
