John R. Bachand, 73

DALTON - John R. Bachand, 73, of South Shore Court, Polk City, Fla., formerly of Dalton, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008, at home of cancer.
Born in Holyoke on Jan. 26, 1934, son of Patrick and Katherine Moriarty Bachand, he graduated from Holyoke High School. He moved to Dalton in the early 1950s.
Mr. Bachand was employed by General Electric Co. in Pittsfield as an engineer for 37 years. He retired in 1992 with a golden handshake.
He was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church in Lakeland, Fla. He was a member of the Dalton American Legion and a 30-year member of the Dalton Volunteer Fire and Rescue team.
After retiring, he and his wife, the former Anne K. Mahoney, traveled the country in their motorhome and were active in the Southeast area of the Family Motor Coach Association.
Besides his wife of 53 years, he leaves five sons and their wives, Richard and Lori Bachand of Goffstown, N.H., Steven and Melody Bachand of Merrimack, N.H., James Bachand of New Port Richey, Fla., John and Tracey Bachand of Allenstown, N.H., and Robert and Yvonne Bachand of Washington, N.H.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Robert Dufur of Hinsdale and Nancy and Bruce Amidon of Tamarac, Fla.; a brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Helen Bachand of Holyoke; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, three nephews and four nieces.
FUNERAL NOTICE - A funeral Mass for John R. Bachand, who died peacefully surrounded and lovingly cared for by his family on Tuesday will be celebrated Thursday, Jan. 24, at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony's Church in Lakeland, Fla.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dalton Firemen's Association, 20 Flansburg Ave., Dalton, MA 01226. GENTRY-MORRISON FUNERAL HOME in North Lakeland is in charge of arrangements.
John will be greatly missed by his loving family and many friends.
