Dalton - Charles E. Conner, 74, of 996 South St., died Sunday at Hillcrest Commons.
Born in Pittsfield, on June 16, 1933, son of Fred C. and Rena Gareau Conner, he attended Becket Elementary School and Chester High School.
Mr. Conner was a self-employed contractor for many years. He retired in 1997 from A.J. Schnopp Construction Co. Previously, he worked at Byron Weston Co.
A member of the National Rifle Association, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking. He also enjoyed going to his grandsons' football games.
He married the former Joan K. Fox on Nov. 28, 1953.
Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Debra A. Conner of Sturbridge and Susan E. Wilson of Williamstown; a son, James M. Conner of Washington; and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by another son, Richard C. Conner, on June 4, 1972.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- In honoring the wishes of Charles E. Conner, 74, who died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007, there are no services or calling hours. Following cremation, private services will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations in his memory may be made to HospiceCare in The Berkshires in care of DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, Ryan C. and Matthew C. Wilson, Kimberly Conner Paquette, and Amy C. and Richard J. Conner. He also leaves his sons-in-law, Gary B. Wilson and Donald E. Carlton Jr.; his daughter-in-law, Lisa L. Conner; his cousins, Stanley R. Noll and John A. Conner; and his beloved dachshunds, "Big Guy" Toby and "Little Guy" Mikey, who will greatly miss their walks with him.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph E. and Fred L. Conner, and a sister, Carol Ann Dupont.
