Winnie Bell Payton, 84, of 365 W. 118th St., New York City, died Friday at Berkshire Medical Center.
She had been residing in Pittsfield with her granddaughter, Sabrina D. Powell, while receiving medical treatment.
Born in Falkland, N.C., on Oct. 31, 1923, daughter of Art and Jennette Morgan Newton, she was educated in schools there.
Mrs. Falkland was pastor of Revive Church of Jesus of Apostolic Faith in New York, which she founded in 1969.
She enjoyed gardening.
Her husband, Carlton Payton, whom she married March 30, 1940, died Oct. 31, 1978.
Besides her granddaughter, she leaves four great-granchildren.
She was predeceased by her son, Joseph N. Payton.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Winnie Bell Newton Payton, who died Friday, Nov. 2, 2007, will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at ISAIAH OWENS FUNERAL HOME, 216 Lenox Ave., New York City. A calling hour will precede the service, beginning at 10 a.m.
Burial will be in Mount Holiness Memorial Park in Butler, N.J. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Payton may be made to Berkshire Medical Center's Renal Dialysis Unit in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield.
Pastor Payton, who is remembered as one who walked in the spirit and proclaimed the name of Jesus wherever she went, also leaves her grandson-in-law, Pittsfield Police Officer Walter J. Powell, and four great-grandchildren, Shakirra Smalls, Davasia Oliver, Michael Traylor and Starr Powell.
