Richard H. Arndt

Richard H. Arndt, 78, of Waukesha, Wis., formerly of Lenox, died Oct. 24. at Waukesha Memorial Hospital.

Born in Milwaukee on May 29, 1929, son of August and Maria Christiansen Arndt, he moved to Bay View, Wis., and graduated from Bay View High School. In 1952, he graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a master's degree in electrical engineering.

He moved to Waukesha from Lenox in 1982.

Mr. Arndt was employed by S&C Electric in Chicago and by RTE/Cooper Power in Pewaukee, Wis., retiring from the latter in 1991. He also worked for General Electric Co. for 27 years as an electrical engineer. After retirement, he worked as a consultant for many years.

He was a member of the Berkshire Hillsmen, a men's barbershop chorus in Pittsfield, and was a founding member of the Lenox Volunteer Ambulance Squad.

He worked on the Governor's Council, helping to develop a law in Massachusetts for disabled children.

He was married to the former Cynthia Cotter.

Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Ellen Mendel of Lenox Dale and Katherine Birdsall of Milwaukee; three sons, William Arndt and David Arndt, both of Waukesha, and Kevin Arndt of Milwaukee; and five grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Richard H. Arndt, who died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007, were held Sunday, Oct. 28, at 3 p.m. at RANDLE-DABLE FUNERAL HOME, 1110 S. Grand Ave., Waukesha, Wis. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to the Sierra Club, 8112 W. Bluemound Road, Suite 108, Milwaukee, WI 53213, to Milwaukee Community Sailing Center Inc., 1450 N. Lincoln Memorial Drive, Milwaukee, WI 53202, or to the Lenox Volunteer Ambulance Squad, Town Hall, 6 Walker St., Lenox, MA 01240.

He also leaves two sons-in-law, Richard Mendel and William Birdsall; a daughter-in-law, Dawn(David) Duellman; a brother-in-law, Tim (Connie) Cotter of Waunakee, Wis.; grandchildren, Rebecca Field of Los Angeles, Connor and Jack Birdsall of Milwaukee, Wis., and Jacob and Matthew Arndt of Waukesha; and nephews, nieces, other relatives and many friends.
