Charles S. Hudak

Charles S. Hudak, 89, of 260 Pittsfield Road died Friday at Hillcrest Commons in Pittsfield.
Born in Dixonville, Pa., on Jan. 31, 1918, son of Frank and Mary Furin Hudak, he attended schools there and enlisted in the Civilian Conservation Corps at age 16.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served with the 29th Field Artillery Division in France and Germany and participated in the Normandy invasion. He was honorably discharged in 1945 with the rank of corporal.
Mr. Hudak was employed by American Airlines at JFK International Airport in New York as a utility worker in the plant maintenance department for 20 years, retiring in 1980. Before his military service, he worked in a tube factory and did farm work, both in Pennsylvania, and later worked as a chauffeur for the Sisters of Mercy at Misericordia Hospital in New York City.
He was a communicant of St. Ann's Church and enjoyed sports, bird watching and gardening.
He and his wife, the former Anne J. Wasylo, celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary Oct. 13. They were married in Carnegie, Pa.
Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Mary McClelland of West Stockbridge and Carol Phifer of Indianapolis; two sons, Charles F. Hudak of Syosset, N.Y., and Ronald Hudak of San Antonio; three sisters, Sue Polak of Phoenix, Elizabeth Bogard of Louisville, Ky., and Esther Pekarik of New York City; seven grandchildren; and a great-grand.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Charles S. Hudak, who died Friday, Oct. 26, 2007, will be Tuesday morning at 9 at ROCHE FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Ann's Church celebrated by the Rev. Christopher J. Waitekus, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Ann's Cemetery.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow from 4 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Hudak's memory may be made to St. Ann's Church or to the Lenox Council on Aging, both in care of the funeral home, 120 Main St., Lenox, MA 01240.
Mr. Hudak also is survived by his loving grandchildren, Kay Lothrop of Lee, Brian McClelland of Pittsfield, Troy Phifer and Charles "Chaz" Hudak, of New York City, Alison Hudak of Syosset, N.Y., Christian and Janelle Hudak of San Antonio, and his great-grand Tristan Lothrop. Mr. Hudak enjoyed spending time with his family.
