Richard J. Guiltinan

Richard J. Guiltinan, 79, of Stuart, Fla., a native of Pittsfield, died Tuesday at Martin Memorial Medical Center in Stuart.

Born in Pittsfield on Aug. 2, 1928, son of Walter and Alice Purnell Guiltinan, he was a 1945 graduate of St. Joseph's High School and received a bachelor's degree in commerce cum laude from Notre Dame University in South Bend, Ind., in 1951. He had resided in Stuart for 14 years, and before that, in Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J.

He was an Army veteran of World War II.

A certified public accountant, Mr. Guiltinan was a partner at Arthur Andersen LLP in New York City, retiring with more than 35 years of service.

He was a communicant of St. Christopher's Church in Hobe Sound, Fla., and a member of the Mariner Sands Golf and Country Club and the Mariner Sands Chapel, both in Stuart.

He was a past president of the New York State Society of CPAs, a former active member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and a past president of Hackensack Golf Club in Oradell, N.J.

He and his wife, the former Rosemary Dwyer, were married May 16, 1953, at St. Joseph's Church.

Besides his wife, he leaves five sons, Richard J. Guiltinan Jr. of Irving, Texas, Timothy J. Guiltinan of Bedminster, N.J., David J. Guiltinan of Denville, N.J., Matthew J. Guiltinan of Chesterfield, N.H., and Edward J. Guiltinan Sr. of Chester, N.J.; a daughter, Martha G. Pesce of Greenlaw, N.Y.; two sisters, Claire Pezzini and Mary Pat Flood, both of Carmarillo, Calif.; and 17 grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Richard J. Guiltinan, a former Pittsfield resident, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007, in Stuart, Fla. The funeral will be Monday at 8 a.m. at DWYER FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church by Monsignor Michael Shershanovich, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Calling hours will be at the funeral home, 776 North St., Pittsfield, on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ Child Society, P.O. Box 2007, Stuart, FL 34995, in his memory. Mr. Guiltinan also leaves two brothers-in-law, David Flood and George Pezzini.
