Alphonse Spagnuolo, 88, of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., a native of Pittsfield, died Sept. 26 at Hospice of Volusia/Flagler in Fort Orange, Fla.
Born on July 2, 1919, son of Giosue and Maria Grazia Garzone Spagnuolo, he attended Pittsfield High School.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and a Navy veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Spagnuolo was employed by the U.S. Postal Service at the Pittsfield post office, retiring in 1978.
He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in New Smyrna Beach and, while in Pittsfield, a former communicant of Mount Carmel Church.
He was a member of the Veterans of For-eign Wars and enjoyed fishing and biking.
His wife, the former Marion Luppi, whom he married Sept. 26, 1950, in Norfolk, Va., died in July 2005.
He leaves two sons, Anthony Spagnuolo of El Segundo, Calif., and Marc Spagnuolo of New Smyrna Beach; a daughter, Kate Spagnuolo of Lomita, Calif.; a brother, Emerico Spagnuolo of Pittsfield; two sisters, Anna Kiley of West Stockbridge and Theresa Murphy of Housatonic; and four grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A private Mass for Alphonse Spagnuolo, who died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007, was held Sept. 29 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in New Smyrna Beach. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Fort Orange, FL 32129.
He also leaves his grandchildren, Joshua and Patrick Rockwell, and Briana and Michael Spagnuolo; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws across the country. He was predeceased by four brothers, Samuel, Joseph, John and Anthony Spagnuolo, and by a sister, Mary A. Maiorano.
