Edgar E. Hover

Edgar E. Hover, 81, of 34 Preston Ave. died Sunday at home after a brief illness.
He was a longtime member of the Pittsfield Conservation Commission.
Born in Pittsfield on June 15, 1926, son of Charles W. and Marie Heimrich Hover, he was a 1944 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
Following graduation, he served in the Army, 165th Infantry Division, in the Pacific theater from August 1944 to August 1946.
Mr. Hover was employed by the Massachusetts Department of Fisheries and Wildlife as a game biologist from 1956 until his retirement in 1987. He also served in the same capacity, and as a deer damage agent for the commonwealth and islands and as a land acquisition agent for the Western Wildlife District. As such, he purchased thousands of acres of land along the Housatonic River corridor for conservation as wildlife management areas and for public use.
He was a member of the board of the Housatonic River Association and enjoyed fly-fishing, hunting, swimming and scuba diving. He also was an accomplished skeet shooter.
He and his wife, the former Thelma L. Sprague, would have celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary Oct. 27.
Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Ericka M. Adams of Pittsfield and Stephanie V. Adler of Stockbridge; and two grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Mr. Edgar E. "Ed" Hover, who died Oct. 14, 2007 will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. Charles Young. There will be an hour of visitation the day of the service, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Burial with military honors will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the North Hill Cemetery, in Readsboro, Vt. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to HospiceCare in the Berkshires or to a charity of the donor's choice, in care of the funeral home, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
Mr. Hover also leaves a son-in-law, David V. Adler; grandchildren, Robert H. and Emma S. Adler; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Lois H. Chaney, and by a brother, Charles W. Hover Jr.
