Hilda Adele Cohen, 88, of 41 Crickett Road, Brockton, a former longtime Pittsfield resident, died Saturday at Brockton Hospital.
She had moved to the Brockton home of her daughter, Fran P. Cohen, to be closer to her family.
Born in New York City on Jan. 21, 1919, daughter of Philip and Fannie Swirsky Friedman, she graduated from high school there and attended Brooklyn College. She moved to Pittsfield in 1945.
Mrs. Cohen was employed by Pittsfield Public Schools as an instructor in its mother/child home program, retiring in 1977. Before that, she worked for the former Robert Hall Clothing store.
She was a member of Congregation Knesset Israel for more than 50 years.
She and her husband, Isidore Cohen, were married March 18, 1945. They had spent winters in Boca Raton, Fla., for the past 30 years.
Besides her husband and daughter, she leaves a son, Harvey Cohen of Delray Beach, Fla.; another daughter, Rita Brine of Sharon; a sister, Joan Schwartz of Flowery Branch, Ga.; and four grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Hilda Adele Cohen, who died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007, were conducted yesterday at Congregation Knesset Israel, 16 Colt Road, Pittsfield, by Rabbi David Greenspoon, spiritual leader. Burial followed in the Congregation Knesset Israel Cemetery. FLYNN AND DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Cohen leaves four grandchildren, Jeffrey Cohen, Michael Cohen and his wife, Rachael, and Lee and Cory Brine. She also leaves a daughter-in-law, Laurie Cohen, and a son-in-law, Ken Brine. She was predeceased by a sister, Sarah Fusco, and two brothers, David and Alex Friedman.
