Margaretta C. duPont

Margaretta C. duPont, 55, of Delafield Drive died Tuesday at the home of her sister, Mary C. Melanson of Park Drive in Lanesborough, after a long battle with cancer.

Born in Pittsfield on May 5, 1952, daughter of Wesley M. and Margaretta Murray Conrad, she was a 1970 graduate of Taconic High School and a 1972 graduate of Berkshire Community College, where she earned her associate degree in liberal studies.

She received her bachelor's degree in education from Bridgewater State College in 1975 and earned a degree in dental hygiene in 1993 from Springfield Technical Community College, where she was presented with the Dr. Alex Fox Award in recognition of "High Ethical Standards in Rendering Dental Hygiene Care."

At the time of her death, Mrs. duPont was employed as a dental hygienist in the office of Dr. Philip F. Mamolito of Pittsfield. Earlier in her career, she tutored children at various school systems in Berkshire County.

She was a communicant of St. Ann's Church and of St. Charles' Church in Pittsfield.

She enjoyed gardening and needlework.

Her former husband, Richard L. duPont, died Aug. 6, 2006.

Besides her sister, she leaves a son, Michael B. duPont of Lenox, and a daughter, Lauren H. duPont of Lenox.

Another son, Richard M. duPont, died Sept. 13, 2005.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Margaretta C. duPont, who died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2007, will be Saturday at 8:30 a.m. from ROCHE FUNERAL HOME in Lenox, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Ann's Church celebrated by the Rev. Daniel B. Brunton, pastor emeritus.

Burial will follow in St. Ann's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in Marge's memory may be made to the Richard M. duPont Memorial Theatrical Scholarship Fund or to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, both in care of the funeral home, 120 Main St., Lenox, MA 01240.

She also leaves a brother-in-law, Mark H. Melanson; a nephew, Matthew C. Melanson; and her devoted friends, Willah, Rufus and Stimpy. Marge faced her illness with remarkable courage and dignity.
