Albert Kenneth Haswell, 84, of 3321 Chatford Drive, Holiday, Fla., a former longtime resident of Pittsfield, died Thursday at Community Hospital in New Port Richey, Fla., after a brief illness.
Born in Hoosick, N.Y., on Aug. 14, 1923, son of Thomas King Haswell Sr. and Ruth Burgess Haswell, he moved to Whitcomb Farm on Florida Mountain in 1925 and to Pittsfield in 1934. He was a 1943 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served with the 7th Battalion, in the artillery division, throughout Europe.
Mr. Haswell was employed by Crane & Co. for 19 years, retiring in 1985. Before that, he was employed by Byron Weston Co. from 1962 to 1966; by his brother, T. King Haswell Jr., electrical contractor, from 1950 to 1962; by the former Pittsfield Retread & Tire Co. from 1946 to 1950; and by General Electric Co., as a turret lathe operator, before the war.
He was a member of Morningside Baptist Church.
His wife, the former Beatrice Jeanette Shane, whom he married Oct. 16, 1948, at Morningside Baptist, died Dec. 18, 2003.
He leaves a son, Kurt K. Haswell of Cheshire; a daughter, Lark M. Hiser of Charleston, S.C.; and three grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Albert K. Haswell, who died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2007, will be held at a time and place to be announced. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association, in care of WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
He also leaves a son-in-law Bruce Hiser; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Haswell; and three grandchildren, Caitlin Haswell, and Bret and Kort Hiser.
