Orlina M. Demary

Orlina M. Demary, 81, of 6 Main St. died Wednesday at Fairview Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Great Barrington after a long battle with breast and ovarian cancer.

Born in Pittsfield on March 1, 1926, daughter of Samuel and Carmella Capasso DiOrio, she attended local schools.

Mrs. Demary was employed by the Lenox Public School System as a cook for more than 20 years and was head cook at Lenox Memorial High School at the time of her retirement in 1996. Before that, she was a sewing machine operator at the former Clix-Brandt Pajama Factory in Pittsfield.

She was a communicant of St. Ann's Church and a member of the Lenox Senior Citizens' Club.

Her husband, Wallace R. Demary Sr., whom she married July 21, 1945, died March 28, 1996.

She leaves two sons, Wallace R. Demary Jr. of Providence, R.I., and Jeffrey E. Demary of Pittsfield; a daughter, Valerie C. Lorette of Stockbridge; a brother, Raymond G. DiOrio of Pittsfield; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A son, Allen J. Demary, died Nov. 24, 2005, and a daughter, Sandra J. Gongola, died Sept. 4, 1987.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Orlina M. Demary, who died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007, will be Monday at 9 a.m. from ROCHE FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Ann's Church celebrated by the Rev. Daniel B. Brunton, pastor emeritus. Burial will follow in St. Ann's Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Demary's memory may be made to either the Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition, both in care of the funeral home, 120 Main St., Lenox, MA 01240.

Mrs. Demary also leaves a daughter-in-law, Becky Demary, and her son's partner, Charles R. Mallery.
