Mary Ann Brett

Mary Ann Brett, 93, of 68 South St. and Wellfleet died Wednesday at Providence Care Center of Lenox, where she had resided the past month.

Born in Pittsfield on Jan. 29, 1914, daughter of Carmelo and Maria Penino Scaffo, she was a graduate of Pittsfield High School and of the former Berkshire Business College.

She was a longtime resident of Pittsfield.

From 1954 to 1969, Mrs. Brett was employed by the former Holden & Stone department store on North Street as a buyer. From 1970 to 1977, she co-owned and operated the former Holden & Stone's in Great Barrington. She retired from Goodwill Industries in 2003 with 18 years of service.

She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and enjoyed traveling and spending summers at her home in Wellfleet on Cape Cod.

Her husband, James Peter Brett, whom she married Oct. 22, 1938, at St. Mary's Church, died Sept. 5, 1980.

She leaves a daughter, Patricia Alibozek of Dalton; five grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mary Ann Brett, 93, who died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007, will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church by the Rev. Rev. James K. Joyce, pastor. Burial, in St. Joseph's Cemetery, will be private.

There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Brett may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield.

Mrs. Brett leaves five grandchildren, Mary Stolfi, Tammie Kerr, Daniel Alibozek Jr., and James and Jeffrey Alibozek; and 14 great-grandchildren, Michael, Justin, Sarah and Michaela Langlais, James, Brandon, Bryan and Dylan Kerr, Owen, Lilly Alibozek and Aiden Alibozek, Emma and Julia Cornwell, and Cynthia Stolfi. She was predeceased by two brothers and five sisters.
