Sarah V. Kacensky

Sarah V. Kacensky, 89, of 5 Taconic Island Road died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Pittsfield on Jan. 12, 1918, one of 14 children of William E. and Sarah Savage Winters, she attended the former St. Charles' Grammar and St. Joseph's High schools.

A homemaker, Mrs. Kacensky was employed by General Electric Co. from 1934 to 1948.

She was a communicant of St. Charles' Church and enjoyed sewing, doing crossword puzzles, watching game shows and gardening.

Her husband, William E. Kacensky, whom she married Jan. 17, 1948, died Dec. 21, 1994.

She leaves three daughters, Beverly Stodden of the town of Washington, Christine Kelly of Brimfield and Cynthia Daste of Danville, Calif.; a son, Peter Kacensky of Livermore, Calif.; a brother, Daniel Winters of Pittsfield; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Sarah V. Kacensky, who died Sept. 17, 2007, will be Thursday at 9:15 a.m. at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Charles' Church by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the American Heart Association in care of the funeral home.

She leaves five grandchildren and their spouses, Joseph Letourneau and his wife, Allison, Amy Orpin and her husband, Scott, and Meghan, Ryan and Shannon Kelly; three great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Gabriella Orpin, and Thomas Letourneau; three sons-in-law, Peter Stodden, Martin Kelly and Guy Daste; a daughter-in-law, Dwana Kacensky; and 33 nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by nine brothers, William, Raymond, Michael, George, Joseph, John, Arthur, Marshall and Clement Winters, and by three sisters, Florence Winters, Mary Kawiecki and Catherine Weed. She always provided a warm and loving home for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
