Rita A. Derouin Martin

Rita A. Derouin Martin, 83, of 6 Main St., died Tuesday at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Hartford, Conn., on March 19, 1924, daughter of Francis X. and Rose Potvin Racicot, she attended schools in Springfield and was a 1943 graduate of Sacred Heart High School.

Mrs. Derouin Martin was employed as a receptionist at the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Springfield for several years. Before that, she worked as a telephone operator for New England Bell, also in Springfield.

She was a lifelong communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Springfield and became a member of St. Ann's Church in Lenox after moving to the Berkshires in 1993.

She enjoyed playing the piano and singing and knew a great deal about cinematic history.

Her husband, Edmund A. Derouin, whom she married June 24, 1944, in St. Joseph's Church in Springfield, died in 1972.

She leaves two sons, Paul E. Derouin of Los Angeles and Donald E. Derouin of Houston; two daughters, Ann E. Lawton of Lee and Jeannine R. Toffey of Watertown, Conn.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Rita A. Derouin Martin, who died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2007, will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the ROCHE FUNERAL HOME, 120 Main St., Lenox. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Ann's Church by the Rev. Christopher J. Waitekus, pastor.

Burial will follow at St. Michael's Cemetery in Springfield. There will be a calling hour from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of the funeral home.

She leaves five grandchildren, Nathan and Jill Lawton, Laura Derouin and Benjamin Derouin and Elizabeth Quadrato.
