Harold "Charlie" Cudahy Jr.

Harold "Charlie" Cudahy Jr., 75, of Vacation Road in Villas, N.J., a longtime resident of Pittsfield, died yesterday at home.

Born in Philadelphia on Aug. 26, 1932, son of Harold Cudahy Sr. and Thelma Oxley Cudahy, he lived for many years in Pittsfield, where his father owned and operated a newsstand on North Street.

He moved to Villas in 1994 to be close to his family.

Mr. Cudahy worked for many years as an equipment operator for the Top "O" Hill Excavators. He was also employed as a driver and dispatcher by the Yellow Coach Lines and Dufour Bros. Touring Co. He worked as a parking lot attendant at Morey's Pier in Wildwood, N.J., for the last six years.

He trained and showed German shepherds and worked at Cape May Carriage as a groomer.

He leaves a sister, Marie Lambertino of Villas, N.J.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Mass of Christian Burial for Harold "Charlie" Cudahy, who died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2007, will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Raymond's Church, Bayshore & Ocean Avenue, Villas, N.J. There will be a viewing from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the EVOY FUNERAL HOME, 3218 Bayshore Road, N. Cape May, N.J.

Burial will be Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Calvary Cemetery, Conshohocken, Pa. Donations in his memory may be sent to Love of Linda Cancer Fund, P.O. Box 1053, Wildwood, N.J. 08260 or to Holy Redeemer Hospice, 1801 Route 9 N. Swainton, N.J. 08210-1436. He also leaves a son-in-law, Ted Lambertino; five nieces, Sharon (Voss) Striluk Villas, Vickie (Ed) Brunner and Larissa, Nicole, and Destini Striluk; a nephew, Jeremy Brunner; and the family of Richard and Clare Smith and their children, all of Pittsfield.

Charlie was like an uncle to them, teaching them to ride horses and appreciate animals in general. He also leaves his dear and caring friends, Fred and Roberta Trzcinka of Pittsfield. Charlie gained many beloved friends while working and training thoroughbred horses at race tracks all over the East Coast, including Saratoga, Suffolk Downs, and Monmouth race tracks.
