Ethel V. "Dolly" Dixon, 89, of 55 Jennings Ave. died Tuesday at Carolina Pines Hospital in Hartsville, S.C.
Born in Dalton on March 6, 1918, daughter of Joseph and Virginia Casella DeAngelus, she was educated in local schools and had resided on Jennings Avenue for more than 40 years.
Mrs. Dixon was employed as a waitress for 36 years, 23 years at the former Stanley Club in Pittsfield and 13 at the former Crane Inn. She retired when the Stanley Club closed many years ago. She also worked at one time at Crane & Co.
She was a communicant of St. Agnes' Church and a member of the Hinsdale Lions Club.
Her husband, Stanley L. Dixon Sr., whom she married April 30, 1938, died Sept. 8, 1995.
She leaves two daughters, Patricia Gutierrez of Springfield and Donna Hatchell of Timmonsville, S.C.; a son, Stanley L. "Moe" Dixon Jr. of Underwood, Wash.; two brothers, Louis "Gigi" DeAngelus of Rome, Ga., and Charles J. DeAngelus of Dalton; a sister, Jenny Baumann of Hinsdale; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Ethel V. "Dolly" Dixon, 89, who died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007, will be Monday at 9:15 a.m. from DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME in Dalton, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Agnes' Church celebrated by the Rev. Christopher Malatesta, pastor.
Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Dolly enjoyed working as a waitress and was well-known in Dalton for her "Dolly's Jennings Avenue Coffeehouse."
She was predeceased by five brothers, a sister, a grandson and a great-grandson. Memorial donations in memory of Dolly may be made to the Hinsdale Lions Club, in care of the funeral home, 890 Main St., Dalton, MA 01226.
