Louvern C. Betit, 83, of 850 Frank Smith Road, Longmeadow, a former resident of Pittsfield, died yesterday at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield.
She moved to Longmeadow in 1969.
Born in Winsted, Conn., on July 3, 1924, daughter of Elmer and Rose Fradette Carter, she was educated in Sheffield schools and was a graduate of the former Sheffield High School and of the former Berkshire Business College.
Mrs. Betit was a homemaker. Before her children were born, she was employed by Berkshire Life Insurance Co. as a legal secretary.
While in Pittsfield, she was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church.
Her husband, Robert Betit, whom she married June 21, 1952, died Feb. 13, 1996.
She leaves two daughters, Jane Sommers of Vernon, Conn., and Jennifer Manley of Fairport, N.Y.; two brothers, James Carter of Old Chatham, N.Y., and Gordon Carter of Sheffield; and three grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Louvern C. Betit, who died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007, will be celebrated tomorrow, Sept. 8, at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church by Monsignor Michael Shershanovich, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. The family will receive guests from 8 a.m. until the time of service at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations in her memory may be made to the American Red Cross, in care of the funeral home, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
She was predeceased by her sister, Eleanor Corser.
