Donn Clement Elser Jr., 56, of Crane Avenue and Palm Bay, Fla., died Tuesday at his home in Dalton.
He served 14 years as the Dalton water commissioner, and the new pump house was dedicated in his name.
Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 9, 1950, son of Vivian Lamphear Elser DeAngelus and the late Donn C. Elser Sr., he was a 1968 graduate of Wahconah Regional High School.
He served in the Army National Guard out of Westfield from Sept. 29, 1968, to Sept. 28, 1976, and attained the rank of sergeant E-6.
A self-employed general contractor, Mr. Elser owned and operated Elser Insulation from 1983 until retiring in 1999. He also was a Realtor at Berkshire Agency and owned and managed several rental properties in Pittsfield. He also opened the first hypnosis center in Pittsfield.
He was a member of Berkshire Power Squadron and enjoyed traveling in his RV, deep sea fishing and playing golf.
He and his wife, the former Patricia H. Creamer, were married Oct. 12, 1984.
Besides his wife and mother, of Palm Bay, he leaves two sons, Jeremy Elser of Phoenix and Steven Elser of Tempe, Ariz.; a stepson, Rick Neumann of Pittsfield; a stepdaughter, Brenda Bonvin of Poestenkill, N.Y.; two sisters, Joanne Wood of Palm Bay and Sandra Maloney of Dalton; and a granddaughter.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Donn Clement Elser Jr., who died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007, will be celebrated Saturday at 9 a.m. at St. Agnes' Church by the Rev. Christopher A. Malatesta, pastor. Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery.
Calling hours will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 p.m. at DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Elser may be made to Cancer Care of Brevard, in care of the funeral home, 890 East Main St., Dalton.
