Mary R. Laycock

August 20, 2007

Mary R. Laycock, 89, of Rose Manor Apartments, died Monday at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Pittsfield on Jan. 30, 1918, daughter of Walter B. and Mary J. Richmond, she was a 1935 graduate of Pittsfield High School.

She also earned her licensed practical nurse certificate.

Mrs. Laycock was employed by Berkshire Medical Center for 12 years. After that, she worked for several years as director of the former Meadow Place in Lenox.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church.

She leaves two sons, Gene Laycock of West Dover, Vt., and Barry Laycock of Temple, N.H.; a daughter, Marsha Cerveris Quinn of Tucson, Ariz.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Celebration of the Life of Mary Laycock, who died Monday, Aug. 20, 2007, will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at Martin Memorial Chapel in Pittsfield Cemetery, 203 Wahconah St., followed by burial. There will be a gathering and sharing time beforehand, beginning at 10 a.m. After a lifetime of caring and nursing, Mary has gone to be with her Lord, her trusted guide throughout her life.

She leaves a legacy of love to her children and to her nephew, Bill Dusenbury. Her examples of perseverance, love of learning and common courtesy will guide the lives of her grandchildren, Michael, Marisa, Todd and Marieke. To her great-grandchildren, Sierrah and Julian, "Grannie" leaves her abiding love of all creatures, great and small, and memories of the very special place in her heart for children. She loved the natural beauties of the Berkshires with passion and a fierce devotion. Her sparkling dark eyes and "elfin" grin, her playful dancing and her rakishly placed colorful hats brought smiles from everyone who met her and was lucky enough to share in her enthusiasm for life.

The family expresses deep gratitude to the staff at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility, Berkshire Medical Center and in the Berkshires. Arrangements are through WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 East St., Pittsfield. Because Mary so loved her pets and all animals, donations to the Berkshire Humane Society, in care of the funeral home, would be greatly appreciated.
