Wayne R. "Hawk" Rivers

Wayne R. "Hawk" Rivers, 54, of 126 Lenox Ave., a Pittsfield native, died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center after a long illness.

Born Nov. 4, 1952, son of Charlotte Bence Rivers and the late Raymond L. Rivers, he was a 1971 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He later attended Albany Business College.

Mr. Rivers was employed as a UPS driver for 18 years, retiring in 2003. Before that, he was employed by the former Imco Container and as an oil burner technician at the former JW Gull Oil Co.

He was a communicant of St. Charles' Church and a member of the Pittsfield Running Club.

He enjoyed running, water-skiing, downhill skiing and was a motorcycle enthusiast. He was also a fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.

His first wife, the former Maureen Myers, died June 2, 2003.

He and his wife, the former Katherine Cote, were married Oct. 2, 2004.

Besides his wife, and mother, of Pittsfield, he leaves a son, Shane Rivers of Philadelphia; three brothers, Raymond E. Rivers of Cheshire, Guy D. Rivers of Yukon, Okla., and Kevin G. Rivers of Pittsfield; and two step-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Wayne R. "Hawk" Rivers, who died Aug. 15, 2007, will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9 a.m. at St. Charles' Church by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Charles' Church Building Fund or to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, both in care of the funeral home.

He also leaves his step-grandchildren, Kyle and Karen Betit; his daughter-in-law, Karen Rivers; and his sisters-in-law, Linda, Marlene and Marian.
