Leo Lepotakis

Leo Lepotakis, 79, of 72 Norwich Drive died yesterday morning at home.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Dec. 31, 1927, son of Emmanuel and Kaliope Tavladorakis Lepotakis, he attended schools there until age 17, when he quit to enlist in the Navy.
Upon discovering that he was a minor, the Navy discharged him. He re-enlisted on his 18th birthday.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he served on a PT boat, the USS Saipan, in the South Pacific as a lithographer third class.
Mr. Lepotakis owned and operated Leo's Bar & Grill on Tyler Street in Pittsfield from 1972 to 1982. He had previously worked for the former Union Lunch on Columbus Avenue and also held various part-time jobs.
He was a member of St. George's Greek Orthodox Church and of American Legion Post 155 in Dalton.
He collected coins and model trains and enjoyed reading.
He and his wife, the former Ellen Zavis, were married May 16, 1954.
Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Peter Lepotakis and Neil Lepotakis, both of Pittsfield; a daughter, Corinne Keegan of Pittsfield; two sisters, Chresanthe Staurulakis of Boca Raton, Fla., and Marie Tavla of Boston; and four grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Leo Lepotakis, who died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2007, will be celebrated Monday, Aug. 13, at 11:30 a.m. at St. George's Greek Orthodox Church, by the Rev. Constantine C. Cambas. Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetary in Dalton.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Lepotakis may be made to St. George's Church or to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, both in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
Mr. Lepotakis also leaves four grandchildren, Christopher and Stephen Lepotakis, and Jared and Alaina Keegan. He was predeceased by his brother, Harry Lepotakis.
