Rosemary Cronin Dellea, 80, of 48 Commonwealth Ave., died on Tuesday night at home after a brief bout with cancer.
Born in Pittsfield on June 11, 1927, daughter of William F. and Mary Carey Cronin, she was a lifelong resident of Pittsfield, and attended the Redfield School.
She was a 1945 graduate of St. Joseph's High School.
Primarily a homemaker, she also worked for many years at the former England's and at Elise Farar Dress Shop. Before her marriage, she worked for a time at the former New England Telephone Co.
Mrs. Dellea was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, active in numerous civic, community and social activities.
She enjoyed traveling, square dancing, playing cards at the Ralph Froio Senior Center, and her early morning exercise class in Lenox.
She and her husband, James E. Dellea, would have celebrated their 57th anniversary on Oct. 21.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Dellea leaves a daughter, Mary Ann Cronin of Dedham; four sons, William Dellea of Boston, John Dellea of Dedham, David Dellea of North Andover and Paul Dellea of Spring Hill, Fla.; a sister, Kathryn Ann Rehard of Cincinnati; and nine grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Rosemary Cronin Dellea, 80, of 48 Commonwealth Ave., beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2007, at home after a brief illness with cancer. She graduated from St. Joseph's High School in 1945. Her first job was with the telephone company, where she developed close friendships which flourished her whole life. Later, she worked for years in retail at England Bros. and Elise Farar, where her grace, charm, fashion sense and humor were appreciated by countless customers.
Rosemary married James E. Dellea, originally of Alford, in October 1950. For 57 years together, they raised and served as examples to five children, were active parishioners at Sacred Heart Church, participated in numerous civic, community and social activities and traveled widely in their retirement years. Rosemary particularly enjoyed square dancing, playing cards with friends at the Senior Center and her early morning exercise classes in Lenox.
Besides her devoted husband, she leaves a daughter, Mary Ann Cronin of Dedham; four sons, William Dellea of Boston, John Dellea of Dedham, Paul Dellea of Spring Hill, Fla., and David Dellea of North Andover; a sister, Kathryn Ann Rehard of Cincinnati; and nine grandchildren, Kevin, Gregory, Mariah and Sarah Dellea, Katherine Cronin, and Kristen, Elizabeth, Laurel and Andrew Dellea. The funeral will be on Saturday at 8:15 a.m. from the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 9 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. If friends desire, donations in her memory may be made to Sacred Heart Church or HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
