Peter Maruk, 84, of Sugar Hill died yesterday at home.
Born in Pittsfield on April 30, 1923, son of Michael and Dorothy Nycorchuk Maruk, he was a longtime resident of Pittsfield, and had resided in Dalton since May of 2006.
He was educated in Lanesborough and Pittsfield schools and was a 1942 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Maruk was employed as a security guard by General Electric Co. in Pittsfield for 19 years, retiring in 1989. Before that, he was employed as an auto body repairman for 20 years at the former Shapiro Motors in Pittsfield.
He was a member of the G.E.A.A. where he enjoyed playing golf. He was also a member of the GE Pensioners' Club He enjoyed gardening, riding his bike and fishing. He was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots.
He leaves his wife, the former Marion Jasik, whom he married Feb. 11, 1950.
Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Kathryn A. Maruk of Waltham; two sisters, Anna Trepacz of Pittsfield and Mary Stomsky of North Haven, Conn.; and a brother, John Maruk of Lanesborough.
A son, Peter M. Maruk, died Oct. 9, 1998.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Peter Maruk, who died Monday, Aug. 6, 2007, will be conducted Thursday at noon at the DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield by the Rev. Dennis Castella, chaplain of Hospice Services of Western Massachusetts. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Maruk also leaves several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Helen Polidoro. Memorial donations in memory of Mr. Maruk may be made to the Jimmy Fund in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
