Ramona Garshelis, 80, of 329 Pittsfield Road, Devonshire Estates, died on Friday at Hillcrest Commons.
Born in the Bronx, N.Y., Nov. 13, 1926, daughter of Samuel and Barbara Brommer Garshelis, she attended local schools and was a 1943 graduate of James Monroe High School.
She received her bachelor's degree from Hunter College in 1947 and attended Yale Nursing School for a short time.
Ms. Garshelis was employed for many years in the New York public school system as a music teacher. She also taught music in Pennsylvania schools and a volunteer music instructor for the New York State Psychiatric Institute.
She leaves a brother, Ivan J. Garshelis of Dalton, and a sister, Lorraine Garshelis of Lenox.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Ramona Garshelis, 80, who died July 27, 2007, will be held today at 2 p.m. at the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME with Barbara Cohen, officiating. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery.
There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations in her memory may be made to the Berkshire Music School in care of the funeral home, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
