Eugene R. Curletti

Eugene R. Curletti, 88, of 94 Kittredge Road died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Bridgeport, Conn., on Feb. 26, 1919, son of Lorenzo and Carolina Bertolino Curletti, he moved to Pittsfield as a child and graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1937.

He co-owned the former Curletti's Market on Springside Avenue until 1966. He then was store manager at Super Stop & Shop on Merrill Road, retiring in 1981.

He was a communicant of St. Francis' Church, where he served as a lay minister, as its former administrator and treasurer, and as an usher.

He also was a member of its Holy Name Society. He was a third-degree, 61-year member of Monsignor Eugene F. Marshall Knights of Columbus Council 103 and a fourth-degree member and trustee of Bishop Conaty General Assembly Knights of Columbus.

He was a member of the Italian-American Club and played in its Monday Night Bocce League. He served on the Knights of Columbus Scholarship Committee, was a volunteer for the Heart Fund and was a member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Skyline Country Club and the Boys' Club alumni. He also enjoyed fishing and playing golf.

He and his wife, the former Angelina Biglia, celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary July 15.

Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Dr. Eugene L. Curletti of Pittsfield and Mark J. Curletti of Carolina Beach, N.C.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Eugene R. Curletti, who died Tuesday, July 31, 2007, will be Friday at 9 a.m. from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church celebrated by the Rev. Paul A. Bombardier, pastor. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. He leaves six grandchildren, Eugene W., John A., Henry C. and Carly Curletti, and Casey and Christopher Conry; four great-grandchildren, Cayden T. Conry, and E. Landon, Hunter and Sophia O. Curletti; two daughters-in-law, Dolores (Archambault) Curletti and Kathleen (Kennedy) Curletti; a sister-in-law, Domenica (Petrini) Curletti; and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, John C. Curletti, and by two sisters Phyllis A. Marchisio and Virginia DiBiasi. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Boys' and Girls' Club of Pittsfield in care of the funeral home.
