Joseph F. Koziol, 64, of 20 Britton St., died Sunday at Hillcrest Commons.
Born in Pittsfield on Aug. 21, 1942, son of Julian and Julia Muron Koziol, he attended local schools and was a 1960 graduate of St. Joseph's High School. Continuing his education, he received his associate degree in electrical engineering from Berkshire Community College in 1962.
Mr. Koziol was employed as an electronics technician and technical writer for General Dynamics and by General Electric in the ordnance and power transformer divisions since 1963. He was also a HAM radio operator since May 1955 and went by the handle "W1FLX."
He was a communicant of St. Mark's Church.
Mr. Koziol enjoyed NASCAR, and followed the career of Jeff Gordon. He was a Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan and enjoyed reading.
He and his wife, the former Nancy Browne, were married June 15, 1963 at Holy Family Church. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Mark Koziol of Astoria, Queens, N.Y., two brothers, Francis Koziol of Dalton and Alexander Koziol of Pittsfield; and two sisters, Veronica Kelley and Helen Maxwell, both of Pittsfield. A son, Daniel Koziol, died Feb. 18, 1998.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Joseph F. Koziol, who died Sunday, July 15, 2007, will be held Thursday at 8:45 a.m. from the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mark's Church, celebrated by the Rev. John Salatino, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Cal-ling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations in his memory may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires or Dana Farber in care of the funeral home. He also leaves his sisters-in-law, Pat and Huia Koziol and LuAnne Browne; his brothers-in-law, Jack Browne II, Bernard Kelley and Bruce Maxwell; his mother-in-law, Elsie Browne; his nieces, Cathy Devoti, Andrea Senseman, Julianne Powers, Caroline Kelley and Janine Koziol; and his nephews, Steve and Philip Koziol, Leo Koziol Jr., Glenn Devoti, Gregory Browne and his fiancée, Shannon Finnegan, and Chris Browne and his fiancée, Michelle Berkland.
A brother, Leopold Koziol, died Jan. 29, 2007. Mr. Koziol was a gifted conversationalist, and enjoyed reading about a wide variety of subjects such as history, science, and biographies.
