Eleanor M. Beitzel, 79, of 47 Pine Grove Drive died yesterday at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.
Born in Pittsfield on May 24, 1928, daughter of Andrew J. and Mary Ruff Miller, she was a graduate of St. Joseph's High School.
Mrs. Beitzel was employed by the Department of Employment Services as a clerk for 12 years, retiring in 1992. She also was employed by the former Sheaffer-Eaton division of Textron for 20 years.
She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church and enjoyed traveling to Cape Cod and Maine, and reading.
She and her husband, Walter J. Beitzel, were married June 4, 1949.
Besides her husband, she leaves two sons, David E. Beitzel of Pittsford, Vt., and James F. Beitzel of San Diego; a daughter, Sharon Vincent of Lanesborough; two brothers, Andrew Miller of Lawrence and Gerard Miller of Pittsfield; a sister, Margaret Benjamin of Lenox; and four grandchildren.
Another son, William J. Beitzel, died Jan. 14, 1994.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Eleanor M. Beitzel, who died Saturday, July 14, 2007, will be Tuesday at 8:15 a.m. at DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church celebrated by Monsignor Michael Shershanovich, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to Alzheimer's Association or to the American Diabetes Association, both in care of the funeral home.
Eleanor is lovingly survived by her beloved grandchildren, Christopher and Amanda Beitzel, and Brad and Erin Vincent; her daughter-in-law, Willa Beitzel; and her son-in-law, Jeffrey Vincent. A sister, Florence Ruff, died in 1931. She also enjoyed QVC and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
