Jane S. Hennelly, 83, of 235 Walker St., a former longtime resident of 555 Williams St., died Friday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 11, 1923, daughter of Thomas P. and Helena Wickham Hennelly, she attended local schools and was a 1941 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
She received her bachelor's degree from Manhattanville College in 1945 and her master's degree from the former North Adams State College.
Miss Hennelly was employed for 36 years by the Pittsfield Public Schools. She taught math and science from 1947 to 1972 at the former South Junior High School. She then transferred to the former North Junior High School, where she was a guidance counselor, retiring in 1983.
She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Pittsfield and later of St. Ann's Church. She is a past member of the Wahconah Country Club, a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association and the National Retired Teachers Association. In her early years, she enjoyed golfing, skiing and traveling.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Miss Jane S. Hennelly, who died Friday, July 6, 2007, will be held Friday, July 20, at Sacred Heart Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to a charity of one's choosing in care of DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, 40 Maplewood Ave. She leaves 10 nieces and nephews, and was predeceased by two brothers and three sisters.
