Pierina A. Romeo, 94, of 290 Dalton Ave., died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield on March 14, 1913, daughter of Giovanni and Fiorentina Borio Ferrato, she moved to Torino, Italy, at the age of 2 and attended schools there. She returned to the United States in 1937.
Mrs. Romeo was employed by Rosenfeld's Men's Store and by Besse Clarke as a seamstress, retiring from Rosenfeld's in 1975.
She was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church and enjoyed sewing, cooking, dancing, crocheting, knitting and gardening.
She and her husband, Thomas W. "Ike" Romeo, were married March 14, 1943. He died Aug. 20, 1998.
Mrs. Romeo leaves two daughters, Linda A. Barnes of Pittsfield and Evelyn A. Garstang of Richmond; a brother, Charles Ferrato of Madera, Calif.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Pierina A. Romeo, who died Friday, July 6, 2007, will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Mount Carmel Church by the Rev. Gary Paul Gelfenbien, pastor of St. James Church, Chatham, N.Y.
Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Loving grandmother to Colette R. and Trevor M. Barnes and Jade Ling Garstang. Loving great-grandmother to Chase Elizabeth Barnes.
Other survivors include a son-in-law, Raymond Barnes, and several nieces and nephews. Pierina was predeceased by a son-in-law, John A Garstang, and a brother, Giuseppe "Pino" Ferrato. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mount Carmel Church in Care of the funeral home.
