Catherine J. Houser, 83, former longtime resident of 293 High St., died Thursday at Hillcrest Commons.
Born in Pittsfield on Aug. 24, 1923, daughter of Henry E. and Mary Tatro Archey, she attended local schools and was a 1941 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
She began her career as a secretary at the former A.H. Rice Silk Mill and worked there for 11 years before to moving to Jacksonville, Fla. While in Jacksonville, she was employed by Maxwell House, beginning in 1952.
She returned to the Berkshires in March 1999.
She was a communicant of Notre Dame Church. She enjoyed traveling in her earlier years.
She and her husband, Henry F. Houser, were married June 7, 1947. He died Aug. 30, 1969.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Catherine J. Houser, who died Thursday, July 5, 2007, will be held on Monday at 8:15 a.m. from the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celecrated at 9 a.m. at St. Teresa Church by Msgr. Michael Shershanovich, pastor of St. Joseph's Church.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. There are no calling hours. She leaves a niece, Beverly Dyer of Dalton and a nephew, Jeffrey Daury of Pittsfield.
