Agnes R. Caritey

Agnes R. Caritey, 97, of Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility died there Tuesday.

She had resided at the nursing facility since October 1998.

Born in Pittsfield on Jan. 1, 1910, daughter of Ralph and Josephine Zullo Pignone, she attended local schools.

Mrs. Caritey was employed by General Electric Co. for 33 years in the lighting & arresters and cutout departments, retiring Jan. 1, 1975.

She was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church and a member of its Ladies' Guild, and a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs and Sons of Italy Itam Lodge 564.

She and her husband, Alfred C. Caritey, were married Oct. 29, 1949. He died Jan. 15, 1987. A fan of the Boston Red Sox, she met her husband at a game in Boston.

She leaves a stepdaughter, Mary Anne Jones of Rotonda West, Fla.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Agnes R. Caritey, who died Tuesday, June 29, 2007, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church by the Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker, CSS, pastor. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Friday, June 29, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield. Survivors also include five nephews; six nieces; and several great-nieces and -nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, Francis, Nicholas and Peter Pignone; and three sisters, Assunta "Sadie" Lomaglio, Madeline DeBlasiis and Mary Cacalloro.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, in care of the funeral home. Agnes loved to travel, laugh and have a good time. She especially loved spending time with her family and friends, keeping a beautifully decorated home and baking delicious cheesecakes.
