Dina Costi Gardieff

Dina Costi Gardieff, 90, of 415 East Housatonic St., died Friday at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Pittsfield on Feb. 21, 1917, daughter of Faustino and Lena Volpi Fontana, she lived in the Farnums section of Cheshire as a child and attended schools there.

Mrs. Gardieff and her first husband, Luigi Costi, ran the former Luigi's Restaurant in Hinsdale for 16 years. She later did catering at the Dalton Veterans of Foreign Wars post and at Wahconah Country Club for several years, retiring in 1986. Before that, she was employed by the former Glix Brandt Co., General Electric Co. and the former Pocketbook Factory on Columbus Avenue.

She was a communicant of St. Agnes' Church and enjoyed cooking, sewing and knitting.

Mr. Costi, whom she married Jan. 6, 1934, died April 18, 1976.

Her husband, Fred Gardieff, died May 10, 2005. They were married July 25, 2003.

She leaves two sons, Anthony B. Costi of Assonet and Ward 2 City Councilor Louis A. Costi of Pittsfield; a brother, Emil Fontana of Pittsfield; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A son, Robert P. Costi, is deceased.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Dina Costi Gardieff, who died Friday, May 25, 2007, will be conducted Wednesday, May 30, 2007, at 9 a.m. from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA HOME FOR FUNERALS, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 at St. Agnes Church in Dalton by the Rev. Christopher A. Malatesta, pastor.

Burial will follow in the family plot in Ashuelot Cemetery, Dalton. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday, May 29, from 4 to 7 p.m. She was the loving grandmother of Lisa Andrew, Christian, Nicholas, Matthew and Alicia Costi, and Anita Gage, and the loving great-grandmother of Elizabeth and Shane Andrews. She also leaves two daughters-in-law, Joy and Evelyn Costi, and a sister-in-law, Mary Fontana.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Eleanor Sonsini Animal Shelter or to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, both in care of the funeral home.
