Viola M. Blake

Viola M. Blake, 79, of 16 Pioneer St., died Wednesday at the home of her daughter, Nancy Giardina of 213 Burke Ave. in Pittsfield, after a long illness.
Born in North Adams on Jan. 30, 1928, daughter of Vernon and Viola Tubbs Sheltry, she attended Lanesborough schools and was a 1947 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
Before her marriage to Robert J. Blake on July 23, 1949, she was employed as a typist at Berkshire Life Insurance Co. in Pittsfield.
Mrs. Blake attended Dalton Congregational Church and enjoyed bird watching.
Besides her husband and daughter, she leaves a son, Steven Blake of Pittsfield; a sister, Norma Hoag of Hinsdale; a brother, Milton Sheltry of Pittsfield; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Viola Sheltry Blake, who died Wednesday, May 9, 2007, will be conducted Monday, May 14, at 1 p.m. at BARTLETT-WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 525 Main St., Dalton, by the Rev. Robert Kyte, pastor of Dalton Congregational Church.
Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery in Dalton. Calling hours will be at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Mrs. Blake was an animal lover. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Berkshire Humane Society or the Arthritis Foundation.
She leaves six grandchildren, Kellie Barnes, Melissa and Lindsey Blake, and Sarah, Matthew and Elisa Giardina; and five great-grandchildren, Michael Barnes, Christopher Bostwick, Anthony Giardina, and Sean and Kylie Soper; and a good friend, Tobey the Wonder Dog.
