Robert R. Tolvo, 78, of 10241 Misty Meadow Road, Leesburg, Fla., formerly of Lenox and South Egremont, died Sunday at home.
Born in Housatonic on June 7, 1928, son of Patrick and Helen Richards Tolvo, he attended schools in Lenox and graduated from Lenox High School in 1945.
He was a Navy veteran, serving in the 1940s and receiving the China Service Medal.
Mr. Tolvo was the former owner of the Ruth and Robert Tolvo School of Ballroom Dancing in Lenox, Robert Tolvo Hair Design in Lenox, Williamstown and Great Barrington. While in Florida, he taught in a cosmetology program at a vocational-technical school in Lake County, Fla., and owned Robert ‘n Robert Hair Design in Mount Dora, Fla. At one time, he worked in real estate.
He was a member of St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church in Eustis, Fla.
He was a former member of the Massachusetts Hair Fashion Committee, and was also a retired licensed show dog handler.
Mr. Tolvo and his wife, the former Ruth H. Hanff, were married in 1952. She died July 15, 2002.
He leaves two sons, Robb R. Tolvo Jr. of Apopka, Fla., and Tony Tolvo of Deland, Fla.; three daughters, Shellie Davis of Tavares, Fla., Nikki Tolvo Szymanski of Fruitland Park, Fla., and Marti Young of Lady Lake, Fla; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A son, Paul Tolvo, died Oct. 28, 1963.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Mr. Tolvo, who died Sunday, April 22, 2007, leaves his grandchildren, Briana, Patrick and Ben Davis; Anton Szymanski; Aimee, Clint and Kimberly Young; and Paul, Michael, Josiah and Ana Tolvo; his great-grandchildren, Jaden Young and Maddix Davis; his daughter-in-law, Elaine; his sons-in-law, Rick Davis and Randy Young; his aunts, Joey Blache and Ginny Tolvo of Lee and Ruth Coutherut of Great Barrington; along with many cousins. A funeral Mass was held in Florida.
Burial will be on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Cemetery in Lee. Friends wishing may make memorial donations to Hospice of Lake Sumter, 12300 Lane Park Road, Tavares, FL 32778. KELLY FUNERAL HOME is in charge of local arrangements.
