James R. Danforth

James R. Danforth, 75, of 61 Central Ave. died yesterday at home.

Born in Pittsfield on April 20, 1932, son of Frederick C. and Frances McKenna Danforth, he graduated from the former Dalton High School in 1950.

A Navy veteran of the Korean War, he served four years, part of that time in the Mediterranean.

At the time of death, Mr. Danforth was vice president of Curtis Manor. Before that, he was employed by Crane & Co. for 31 years, retiring in 1992.

He was a communicant of St. Agnes' Church and enjoyed playing the piano.

He and his wife, the former JoAnne Pitcher, were married Sept. 12, 1959.

Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, William J. Danforth of Hinsdale, Charles F. Danforth of Dalton and John P. Danforth of Clinton; two daughters, Eileen Rattigan of Dalton and Karen Carlson of Bantam, Conn.; two sisters, Barbara Shea of Lenox and Patricia Loughan of Dalton; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Another daughter, Denise Lavigne, is deceased.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for James R. Danforth, who died Saturday, April 21, 2007, will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Agnes' Church by the Rev. Christopher Malatesta, pastor.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, in care of the funeral home, 890 Main St., Dalton, MA 01226.

Mr. Danforth loved spending time with his family. A grandson, Matthew R. Danforth, also is deceased.
