Michael A. Conti Sr.

Michael A. Conti Sr., 84, of 176 Windsor Ave., died Saturday at home.
Born in Pittsfield on Oct. 27, 1922, son of Guiseppe and Rose Levardi Conti, he was a lifelong resident of Pittsfield and a 1940 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
He received a degree in electronics from DeVry Institute.
Mr.Conti served with the Second Marine Division in World War II in the initial landings of Samoa, Bougainville, and in the capturing of Guam and Iwo Jima. He was decorated with the Asiatic Pacific Area Ribbon with three stars.
He retired from General Electric Co. after 42 years of service in 1982. He had been a test man in the ordanance department, and later was employed in the power transformer department.
Mr. Conti was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church.
He was a member of the General Electric Quarter Century Club and Pensioners. He was also a member of the General Electric Athletic Association, where he played golf on many leagues. He was a member of ITAM Lodge 564.
He enjoyed carpentry work.
He and the former Genevieve Wanat were married on Aug. 12, 1948, in St. Stanislaus Church in Adams. She died May 17, 2003.
Mr. Conti leaves a son, Michael A. Conti Jr. of Hingham; a daughter, Jacalyn A. Conti of Clifton Park, N.Y.; a sister, Jennie Sciola of Pittsfield; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Michael A. Conti Sr., who died Saturday, April 14, 2007, will be Friday, April 20 at 11 a.m. at DWYER FUNERAL HOME, the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor of St. Charles Church, officiating.
Calling hours at the funeral home are tomorrow from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may go to the Berkshire County division of the American Heart Association or to the American Diabetes Association, in care of the funeral home.
