Ella Mae Patrick

Ella Mae Patrick, 63, of 189 King St., died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Tuskegee, Alaska, on May 14, 1943, daughter of Bertha Whitlow Johnson and the late Frank Johnson, she was a graduate of Tuskegee High School and attended Tuskegee Institute.
She continued her education at the former Dunbar College in Springfield and was a graduate of the executive secretary program at the former Berkshire Business College and received an associate's degree in business careers from Berkshire Community College.
Mrs. Patrick was employed by General Electric Co. as an administrative assistant in the ordnance systems division for 37 years, retiring in 2006 due to poor health. At one time, she had worked in the office of the former England Brothers department store and had been church secretary at South Congregational Church.
She joined Price Memorial AME Zion Church in 1973 under the Rev. John V. Davis. She served on the trustee board and the worship committee and was treasurer for many years.
She was also president and treasurer of the Gospel Choir and sang in the community choir as well. Her work included the district conference, where she served as president of home missions, lay council president and conference reporter. She was home missions queen in 2006, was a member of the Women of Color Giving Circle and was secretary of the Christian Center board of directors.
She enjoyed traveling, baking, sewing, gardening and her collectibles.
Besides her mother, of Pittsfield, Mrs. Patrick leaves two sons, Cory Patrick of Framingham and Copeland Patrick Jr. of Woodlawn, Md.; three sisters, Maggie Goodson, Dorothy Foster and Barbara Kennedy, all of Pittsfield; two brothers, Harold Johnson of North Carolina and Robert L. Johnson of Pittsfield; two grandchildren; and her former husband, Copeland Patrick Sr., of Pittsfield.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Ella Mae Patrick, who died Wednesday, April 11, 2007, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Second Congregational Church, 50 Onota St., Pittsfield, conducted by the Rev. Leonard C. Comithier, former pastor, and the Rev. Willard H. Durant, pastor emeritus of Price Memorial AME Zion Church. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at DERY FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Patrick may be made to Women of Color Giving Circle in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
Mrs. Patrick also leaves her daughter-in-law, Nelia Patrick; two grandchildren, Maceo and Caleb; her godchildren, Elaina Grant and Asina King; as well as her brothers-in-law, Frank Patrick and James Williamson; her sisters-in-law, Ann F. Johnson, Kathy Johnson and Eva Sullivan; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Carrie Ann Johnson and Betty Watford.
